Company profile
Renishaw is a world leader in engineering and science based technologies, with core skills in measurement, motion control, spectroscopy, additive manufacturing and precision machining. We develop innovative products that significantly advance our customers’ operational performance – from improving manufacturing efficiencies and raising product quality, to maximising research capabilities and improving the efficacy of medical procedures.
Our products are used for applications as diverse as machine tool automation, co-ordinate measurement, metal 3D printing, gauging, Raman spectroscopy, machine calibration, position feedback, CAD/CAM dentistry, stereotactic neurosurgery and medical diagnostics. In all of these areas we aim to be a long-term partner, offering superior products that meet our customer needs both today and into the future, backed up by responsive, expert technical and commercial support.
For machine tool users, probes for CNC machine tools allow automated tool setting, workpiece set-up, in cycle gauging and part inspection on CNC milling machines, machining centres, CNCN lathes and mill-turn machines. Products available include laser tool setters, contact tool setters, tool breakage detectors, touch probes and high accuracy inspection probes. SPRINT is Renishaw’s latest on-machine contact scanning system which enables high-speed, high-accuracy scanning on CNC machine tools.
To check the performance of CNC machine tools, including rotary axes, Renishaw’s QC20-W wireless ballbar and XL-80 laser interferometer can be used to assess, monitor and improve the static and dynamic performance to establish a known and repeatable level of process capability.
Our innovative sensors for co-ordinate measuring machines (CMMs) are an industry standard, from basic touch-trigger probes and manual probe heads, through to automated stylus changers, automated probe changers, motorised indexing probe heads, and revolutionary five-axis measurements systems, such as REVO, and PH20. A full range of probe styli/probe tips is also available.
In motion control Renishaw’s laser encoders, optical linear, rotary and angle encoders, magnetic linear and rotary encoders and magnetic chip encoders are used for position feedback applications in industries as diverse as electronics, motorsports, bomb disposal, semi-conductors, food manufacture and print production. Latest developments include the ATOM™ miniature incremental optical and linear encoder system for applications such as laser scanning, semiconductors, motor drive systems, and microscopy, amongst others.
Renishaw’s Equator™ versatile gauging system is a radical alternative to traditional dedicated gauging. The patented low-cost design, unique in construction and method of operation is capable of high-speed comparative gauging for inspection of high-volume manufactured parts.
Renishaw has also developed an extensive range of modular fixturing systems for CMMs, vision systems and the Equator gauge. Renishaw’s fixtures enable improved throughput, reproducibility and accuracy in the inspection process, with quick and repeatable fixturing set-ups.
The company also designs, develops and manufactures rapid prototyping systems, including metal casting and vacuum casting machines and processes, and is the only UK manufacturer of a metal-based additive manufacturing machine. Renishaw is also able to offer additional additive manufacturing services, including design and simulation and the contract manufacture of metal prototypes and production parts.
Renishaw also offers large scale metrology products for high-speed laser measurement and surveying systems for use in extreme environments such as marine positioning and mine/quarry scanning. The new Quarryman® Pro for rock profiling and laser scanning system for quarry surveying and stockpile monitoring improves safety and is the most robust system yet.
Renishaw is also a recognised leader in Raman spectroscopy, where its optical spectroscopy products exploit the Raman effect in a non-contact, non-destructive manner, to identify and characterise the chemistry and structure of materials. Products include the inVia Raman microscope, which produces detailed images and highly specific data for researchers across the globe.
In the world of dentistry, Renishaw produces 3D contact and optical dental scanners and dental CAD software that enables laboratory staff to design abutments and structures for crowns and bridges, including strength calculations. As part of its service to laboratories, Renishaw manufactures dental frameworks from zirconia and also from metal using an additive manufacturing process.
In neurosurgery, Renishaw provides a stereotactic robot, plus a range of options that provides a platform solution for a broad range of functional neurosurgical procedures including deep brain stimulation (DBS) and neuro-endoscopy. It also provides neurosurgical planning software that allows advanced planning of target and trajectories for stereotactic neurosurgery.
