Somta Tools’ regrind and recoat service was recently improved and upgraded. Previously regrinds had to be scheduled alongside the company’s normal production run which sometimes negatively impacted the lead times that the company was able to offer.
In order to meet the growing demand for carbide regrinds, Somta recently purchased a Walter Helitronic CNC machine and created a dedicated regrind facility in their carbide plant, which will double the volume of regrinds possible. Somta regrinds and recoats both its own tools as well as competitor tooling, so this is a unique opportunity for their customers to utilise their facility to maximise the lifespan of tooling purchased from other manufacturers too.
Regrinds are offered on all standard tooling and where possible, specialised or custom tooling.
Carbide Manager Ganesan Govender will assess your tooling specs and advise accordingly. Please contact him at ganesan@somta.co.za to discuss your regrind requirements.
Walter tool grinding machines are used to produce and re-sharpen tools. Their machine tools can handle complex tool geometries and allow you to re-sharpen tools. The machine is designed for fully automatic tool grinding. The grinding process takes place in five axes (X,Y,Z,C,A).
2017 has been a watershed year for the 68-year-old Pietermaritzburg, KwaZulu-Natal based company Somta Tools in that Japanese cutting tool manufacturer OSG Corporation acquired a majority stake holding in Africa’s largest manufacturer of round cutting tools.
