Okuma exhibits high-performance machines from its entire product range and smart components in Milan

Highlights for visitors were two new 5-axis machining centres and the new CNC Control OSP suite.

“Machines to build the future” is the slogan that Okuma adopted and was the theme of their stand when they exhibited at the recent EMO 2015 in Milan. Highlights of the stand were the new MU-4000V and MU-8000V 5-axis machining centres, as well as the next generation OSP suite.

The recently developed OSP suite enables digital manufacturing for greater efficiency

The next generation intelligent CNC
The OSP suite offers customers IT applications in one package and resolves machining issues. Okuma’s intelligent technology such as the thermo-friendly concept, collision avoidance system, machining navi or 5-axis auto tuning system are combined with Okuma software and applications from tool, measuring equipment and system manufacturers for specific production requirements. Suite Digital Manufacturing integrates premium applications for visualising and digitising important information for machining and in doing so, makes each individual process step more efficient. The ECO suite combines highly advanced energy-saving technologies with the idling stop function of machine tools, taking into account additional equipment. Almost all machines on display were equipped with the OSP suite. Visitors had the opportunity to test the new interface in a special OSP Plaza with operating panels and NC Master.

Manufacturing of high precision and complex parts
Okuma has expanded the 5-axis machining centre product range with two new machines, which are capable of overcoming challenging demands and are characterised by their high precision and ease of use. The new MU-8000V machining centre features a large working area, high traversing speeds and high cutting performance. The machine offers maximum flexibility in 5-sided or 5-axis simultaneous machining. Process reliability, dimensional stability and geometrical accuracy are ensured thanks to a sturdy portal construction and the thermo-friendly concept. The MU-8000V is ideally suited for use in die and mould construction, in medical applications or for the manufacturing of very complex aerospace components. Features such as the high-speed control system or the turning function of the C-axis are also optionally available. Additional available functions such as the 5-Axis auto tuning system or tool edge control were also demonstrated.

The new MU-8000V 5-axis machining centre for high precision and complex part manufacturing

The new MU-4000V 5-axis machining centre is more compact and differs in its design, but is also capable of machining complex parts with high precision. Typical applications are, for example, in the aerospace industry or in the automotive industry. Several functions such as the 5-Axis Auto Tuning System, gear machining and ECO hydraulics were also demonstrated on this machine.

New features for higher productivity
Okuma also presented many other CNC machine tools for profitable production processes. The manufacturer has considerable expertise in multitasking and 5-axis machining. Satisfying the highest demands, the Multus U series of multitasking lathes are based on a solid orthogonal flatbed and are ideal for process-intensive and complete machining in complex applications. The enormous productivity of these multitasking machines has improved once again thanks to several new features. Now equipped with the 5-Axis auto tuning system the Multus U series is built to manufacture extremely precise components with high speed. The features of the Intelligent Technology were demonstrated on the Multus U4000 in a dedicated stage presentation. The Multus U3000 model will exhibit fast and accurate production results for complex gears thanks to the new gear machining function.

Complex parts can be manufactured with high precision using the new MU-4000V 5-axis machining centre

The MB-4000H horizontal machining centre has been designed for extremely economical and very precise cutting of small parts. The attached FMS container is a perfect automation solution, drastically reducing the downtimes. The turning cut function for lathe applications on machining centres was demonstrated as a useful tool on the MB-4000H.

Another innovation was the 2SP-V760 vertical lathe. It enables maximum productivity with its double spindle and is ideally suited for the mass production of standardised components. The GA15W grinder, which is an extremely compact solution for volume production, underlines Okuma’s vast expertise in grinding technology.
