Accelerating technology through IoT connection at JIMTOF 2018
Having just visited EuroBLECH 2018 in Hannover, Germany where there was a big emphasis by exhibitors on digitalisation, artificial intelligence (AI) and Industry 4.0, I did not expect anything less at JIMTOF 2018, especially as the theme for the exhibition was ‘Connected by technology for the future’.

Machine tool orders for 2016 reached a record high of € 2,369.9 million, up 4% compared with a global machine tool market that declined 1.7%.

Connecting the Smart Factory and IoT feature at JIMTOF 2016
Visiting a machine tool exhibition in Tokyo, Japan does not conjure up ideas of walking through a nature reserve or national park. But what it does highlight is that as a global leader in machine tool design and construction, Japan plays a key role in developing and promoting new metalworking technology and usually does not disappoint in releasing product introductions and new technologies.

Fiber laser machines, with more power and capabilities to cut thicker material, lead the way.
Automated structural steel processing machines are Voortman’s game
The decision of whether or not to select a concrete or steel core or framing system for a modern high-rise is not a safety issue. Rather, the determining factors remain the architectural and structural design requirements, construction costs and scheduling, and the preferences of the specific contractor and designer. Steel framing is the preferred construction material and some say that three steel-framed buildings are built for every one concrete building.

Bystronic reveals innovations at 2015 Competence Days held in Niederönz, Switzerland
Bystronic AG Laser welcomed customers from across the globe to its Competence Days programme that took place from the 1st June to the 13th June 2015. Over 2 500 visitors from around the world visited the Swiss manufacturer’s headquarters in Niederönz, Switzerland and were introduced to the company’s latest innovations in software, bending and laser and waterjet cutting.
BLM Open House INTUBEXV proves to be an electric experience for South African visitors
“Technology is your business partner – Make it happen: it opens doors to new opportunities and widens your horizons.” This was the theme for the Italian manufacturer BLM Group’s open house exhibition that took place in Levico Terme, Italy from 4 to 18 June 2015.

EuroBlech 2014 wows visitors
EuroBlech 2014, the 23rd International Sheet Metal Working Technology Exhibition, wrapped up on 25 October in Hannover, Germany, after five exhibition days. A total of 59 600 trade visitors attended the sheet metalworking show, viewing exhibits from 1 573 companies from 38 countries. This year 38 percent of the total attendance came from outside of Germany, compared to 34 percent at the 2012 event.
JIMTOF – One of the world’s foremost machine tool tradeshows
JIMTOF – The Japan International Machine Tool Fair – usually does not disappoint in releasing product introductions and new technologies for the first time. The recent edition of the event ran from 30 October to November 4, 2014. It took place at Tokyo’s Big Sight exhibition and convention centre, which is conveniently linked to an efficient public transport system that will move you seamlessly to downtown Tokyo, and is close to a number of first-class accommodation choices.

EMO Hannover 2013 stimulates new business throughout international machine tool industry
Every two years, Europe’s most important international machine tool exhibition, EMO, takes place. Italy hosted the event in 2009, two years further on, Hannover, Germany benefited from the exhibition as it did this year. The exhibition is scheduled for Milano, Italy in 2015.
The land of the rising sun does not disappoint
My second visit to Japan took me to the Amada Co. Ltd’s headquarters in Isehara, Kanagawa Prefecture and its flagship manufacturing, development, spares and assembly facility Fujinomiya Works, which is situated at the base of Mt Fuji in Shizuoka Prefecture.

I recently returned from a visit to the Taiwan machine tool show, TIMTOS. Besides the usual stand visits to find out about the latest trends and new equipment, I was taken to see several Victor Taichung manufacturing facilities, including the foundry of Victor Taichung, one of Taiwan’s leading machine tool builders.
SolidWorks World 2013
In 1999, when the first SolidWorks World was held in Palm Springs, there were approximately 800 people that attended, 60 partners, and 70 technical sessions. I was privileged to attend this year’s event held in Orlando, Florida, US from 20 to 23 January where there were over 4500 attendees, over 240 technical sessions held, and over 100 partners exhibited in the Partner Pavillion.
