Hermle, a prominent German engineering company, is renowned for its high-precision computer numerical control (CNC) milling machines, machining centers, and automation solutions. Three models of its Generation 2 (GEN2) recently launched include the C 650, C 32, and C 42 and they mark a significant step in the medium machining segment with their size and working area. Hermle plans to transition all its machine models to the GEN2 architecture, following a meticulously defined development process.
Hermle-GEN2
While the GEN2 models have received minimal visual modifications, notably on the two front panels and machine lettering, the core mechanics which underpin Hermle’s precision and durability remain unchanged. This consistency ensures that Hermle continues to set standards in 5-axis technology excellence. The transition to GEN2 represents a leap towards the future with substantial upgrades in both software and hardware components. The machines now feature a completely overhauled electrical architecture, integrating ProfiNet as the communication bus and updating numerous sensors to the IO Link standard. Moreover, the drive network, partnered with Heidenhain, now includes the latest generation of converters, enhancing machine efficiency.
Among the noteworthy improvements, the energy efficiency of the entire machine has been elevated, particularly in the cooling units of the switch cabinet and spindle combined with high-pressure systems. Future models will incorporate frequency-controlled drives for auxiliary units, optimising energy use and contributing to significant environmental and financial savings.
Another major enhancement in the GEN2 series is the revamped cooling lubricant (CL) management system, which improves filtration, cleanliness, and longevity of the CL. In line with advancing control technologies, GEN2 machines will be equipped with either Heidenhain TNC7 or Siemens Sinumerik ONE controls. Further distinguishing the new series is the introduction of the ZM 30 additional magazine. This innovative magazine expands the tool capacity by 30 tools while occupying nearly 50% less space than traditional additional magazines. Designed for seamless integration with the machine’s rear magazine loading station, it maintains complete service accessibility and straightforward commissioning.
Machining center C 650 GEN2
As the youngest member of the Hermle Performance Line, the C 650 GEN2 sets new standards in terms of the traverse path and load.
In addition, the machining center integrates the complete range of features which have already proven themselves in the smaller sister models C 250 and C 400. The top speed of the linear rapid traverses is 35m/min. From machine construction to precision mechanics, from medical engineering to energy production, from the aerospace and automotive industry to tool and mould construction and the general subcontractor industry, the C 650 GEN2 is ideal for a wide range of milling operations.
From the comprehensive fluid technology to the optimised chip management system and a range of cooling lubricant units to the hinged belt conveyor: The new top model of the Performance-Line has a number of highlights to offer, e.g. the right chip disposal equipment for removing all types of chip from the working area. The C 650 GEN2 machining centre for 5-axis / 5-sided machining can be transported without being dismantled and set up without a foundation.
