Owner-managed in the fourth generation.
Established in 1898 Gühring, a company steeped in tradition and today one of the leading manufacturers of precision tools on the world market, celebrated its 125 year anniversary in September 2023.
Gühring was founded at its current site in Albstadt-Ebingen, Germany – and has since grown from a small twist drill factory into a global player.
Gühring is a private limited company, employing approximately 8 000 people in manufacturing, service and sales operations around the world, with 3 500 employed in Germany. Gühring offers customers a complete tooling package, including the well-established manufacture and supply of rotary cutting tools in addition to full product design, development, tool holding systems, tool management, tool regrinding and recoating plus stockholding.
Through their raw carbide production, machine tool and equipment divisions and coating technology including research and development, Gühring is able to harmonise such core expertise through continuous improvement.
The aim of the company is to provide total customer satisfaction and this is achieved by providing optimal products when required, highest productivity, excellent economic efficiency and the latest in tool technology to ensure that new opportunities in efficiency are always achieved.
Gühring has been owner-managed for four generations. Four generations in which the course has not been determined by management changes but in response to the market and customers. Four generations in which the family-owned company has grown to become a global player.
Gottlieb Gühring founded the company and in 1921 his son Oskar Gühring took over the management of the company. In 1940 the company employed 680 staff and already at that time 50 different types of twist drill were manufactured.
Dr Jörg Gühring, the grandson of company founder Gottlieb Gühring, joined the company in 1964. In 1985, he took over the management of the company until his death in 2021.
Dr Jörg Gühring led the company into globalisation in the 1970s – now represented in 49 countries with 70 production locations. Mr Oliver Gühring joined the family business in 2000 and is responsible for the development of sales, marketing and digitalisation. He has been Chairman of the Board of Management since 2021.
Now Gühring can offer almost every rotary cutting tool from drills, reamers, taps and milling cutters in HSS, carbide, PCD and Cermet along with grooving tools, tool holders and vending and tool management systems.
